The Washington Wizards extended training camp to 18 today as they signed veteran guard Juan Dixon for a second term. Finally, something that makes sense; Gilbert Arenas gets injured, the Wizards sign a guard.
Dixon spent his first three years in the league playing for the Wizards from 2002 to 2005. He played well off the bench, scoring an average of about 7.9 points per game while dishing out 1.6 assists per game. He then began to travel, first with the Portland Trailblazers in 2005, then the Toronto Raptors in 2007, and finally the Detroit Pistons to end the 2007-08 season. Should they choose to keep him when the regular season begins, Dixon will provide the Wizards with buckets Arenas would have made had he not been injured. In his 2007-08 stint with the Raptors, Dixon played 36 games off the bench and shot 43.6% from the three point arc and 94.7% from the free throw line while averaging 4.3 points per a game in 11.8 minutes per a game. The Wizards could definitely use a boost here and there, and Dixon, yet another local, should feel right at home this Saturday at training camp.
Coach Jordan +And1
With Arenas covered these last few days by the support of the Wizards' front office, Washington added a one-year extension to Coach Eddie Jordan's contract, further building a commitment in not only the Wizards' talent, but their method as well. Jordan has taken the Wizards to the Playoffs four straight years in a row, which likely had something to do with the call.
