Find out more about George: A creative writing graduate and avid fan of the Wizards and everything basketball, when George V. Panagakos isn't watching or participating in a game, he's busy writing and reading NBA and FIBA league news. |
In my last post, I noted how the Washington Wizards' roster stood at 14. Since a team can have 15 on their roster, I expected the organization to look for another point guard, or perhaps a shooting guard, before training camp next Saturday. Instead, they signed three would-be forwards: DerMarr Johnson, Linton Johnson, and Taj McCullough.
I'm not really sure why the Wizards wanted to add three forwards to a team that will only feature four active guards. I would have much rather seen a guard or two in the mix. If nothing more, the competition would be productive for Wizards guard Nick Young. Of course, Caron Butler could always slide down to the shooting guard position to free up the forward rotation. I'm also interested to see how Taj McCullough develops, although I'm not sure he will be a 2 option in the NBA. As for Johnson & Johnson, both seem rather undersized. Interesting to note DerMarr Johnson was a 6th pick in the 2000 draft, and he is a local. Could he be a threat to Etan Thomas?
Here are the three forwards in brief:
| NAME | POS | HEIGHT | WEIGHT | SEASONS |
| DerMarr Johnson | F | 6'9" | 210 | 7 |
| Linton Johnson | F | 6'8" | 205 | 5 |
| Taj McCullough | F | 6'7" | 227 | Rookie |
