Gilbert Arenas wrote a lengthy blog about his left knee and his future with the Washington Wizards yesterday, which you can check out in its entirety for the full skinny. But it boils down to Arenas suggesting a return "anywhere from mid December to January 1." Let's hope mid December. When it comes to the question of a comeback, I am behind Arenas 100%. I can't say I am 100% behind Baron Davis in skates, but it follows an interesting blog-to-blog dialogue between the two superstars, which picked up some noise when Baron wrote in support of Barack Obama after Arenas suggested the rich had no choice but to vote Republican. Hopefully, whoever wins will bring an end to those short shorts. However, they always seem to make a comeback some how. The Agent Zero of clothing?
Training Camp
Wizards training camp will be a time for the coaching staff to figure out what to do with Arenas out at least a month. With young talent in Nick Young, and sharpshooting experience from DeShawn Stevenson, the Wizards backcourt should fill in nicely. We'll also get a sense of what line-ups Coach Eddie Jordan will want to field; with the addition of JaVale McGee and the absence of Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison could easily slide down a spot to allow for a big team. Extra minutes could be very valuable to Andray Blatche, who has yet to prove himself as a season-starter.
Training camp is also a time to try out wandering players, and see how they fit in to the mix. Right now, the Wizards roster shows 14, which suggests they are a man understaffed at this point. Depending on Arenas, expect the Wiz to shop around for back-up points.
My starters at this point would be:
C: Brendan Haywood
PF: Andray Blatche
SF: Antawn Jamison
SG: Caron Butler
PG: Antonio Daniels, depending on how Nick Young progresses
What line-up do you think the Wizards should go with this season?
