Former NBA star Kevin Duckworth, remembered most for his contributions to the Portland Trail Blazers, died last Monday at the age of 44 due to congestive heart failure. A report released this morning suggested Duckworth had battled cardiomyopathy, a heart disease that inflames the heart muscle and enlarges the heart cavity, weakening the heart and leading to abnormal rhythms and heart failure.
The seven-foot center served the NBA for 11 years, including two seasons with the Washington Bullets in '93 and '94. Blazers President Larry Miller said, “Kevin will be remembered by fans as one of the most popular and recognizable players to ever wear the Blazers uniform, but to people who knew him, he'll be remembered as one of the warmest and biggest-hearted.”
I was too young to remember Duckworth on the court, but I enjoyed this highlight tribute presented by the NBA.
My prayers go out to Duckworth's friends and family; it's terrible to have someone leave us at such a young age.
