The Washington Wizards will challenge the New Jersey Nets tonight in a bitter rematch as they look to claim just the third win of their season and a little bit of road pride to start a four games in five nights stretch.
In their first meeting opening night, the Nets' Vince Carter scorched Washington in the second half, dropping 15 points. Washington also had problems against rookie reserve Brook Lopez in the battle for the boards.
Antawn Jamison is riding an eight-game double-double streak and will look to increase that tonight in a Wizards win. In their last meeting, Jamison only managed three total rebounds, but Caron Butler finished with 11.
I criticized former Head Coach Eddie Jordan for not playing Etan Thomas more, who put up 10 points and 8 rebounds in just under 19 minutes of play. With the current rotation, Thomas does not start now, and his minutes are limited behind JaVale McGee and Andray Blatche, and even Darius Songaila at times due to the foul trouble McGee and Blatche tend to get into over the course of the game.
If Jamison can manage a double-double tonight, and the combo of Nick Young and Andray Blatche put up 20+ points, I think the Wizards will have a good chance of piecing together their first road win of the year. I also hope Ed Tapscott rotates Thomas in a bit more if things are too close.
Tonight's game against New Jersey will air at 7:30 p.m. ET on Comcast SportsNet, and if you are in the mood for some hilarity and you have NBATV, you have to check out Mr. Rashad's Tuesday Night, which features stoner-like commentary by "The Glove" Gary Payton, and former Bullet, Chris Webber. That should be on around 6:30 p.m. ET, but I'm not 100% positive. If all else fails, YouTube will provide endless references of past shows.
