After a week-long journey, the Washington Wizards end their training camp on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University today, which culminates with a full scrimmage at 5:00 pm ET.  Check out Dave Johnson's ongoing blog at five for breaking news and updates regarding a recent tweak Bredan Haywood received, just one of many of the piling injuries of this year's NBA training camp period.

Not many eye pokes at the Wizards camp, though.  If you have read NBA news lately, a couple of players have suffered eye pokes, including Amaré Stoudemire and Joakim Noah (and even though I am an ex-GMU Patriot, I have to cringe for the Gator).  Maybe the NBA isn't the NFL, but serious injuries can happen at training camp.  Hopefully no Tom Brady situations, but a few stars in the NBA -- such as the Houston Rockets Tracy McGrady and the Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant -- will not enter the preseason 100%.  The Wizards, of course, have to figure out Gilbert Arenas, a scoring leader and team leader recently dubbed "Coach Arenas," by Washington's head coach, Eddie Jordan.  Antawn Jamison and now Brendan Haywood are suspect as well, although for minor injuries.

Camps Close to Usher in NBA Preseason
The NBA preseason begins this Sunday, on October 5th.  The Wizards will have their first game on Tuesday, October 7th, against the Dallas Mavericks, after facing them at the Patriot Center last preseason.  Then the Wizards will hold their one and only home preseason game, versus the Detroit Pistons.  The NBA has issued previews of every team out there for the start of the preseason, and I will follow-up with a Detroit-preview to usher in the first Wizards home game of the year.

The WNBA Postseason Wraps Up
The WNBA Finals are ongoing tonight with Game 2 between the Detroit Shock and the San Antonio Stars.  The Los Angeles Sparks' Candace Parker easily won Rookie of the Year honors, posting 18.5 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game, and 2.3 blocks per game, but her team could not make it to the final showdown.
