Highlight on the Wizards' bigs: Day five of the Washington Wizards training camp

October 1, 5:03 PM
by George Panagakos, Washington Wizards Examiner

It's day five of the Washington Wizards training camp, and the highlight today will be the big men, kick-started by another great interview with local sports guy Steve Buckhantz.

Of the players discussed, Brendan Haywood and JaVale McGee are more center-like than Andray Blatche and Oleksiy Pecherov, whom could play small forward if they wanted to, and Etan Thomas is much more of a PF, but is strong enough to play center.  I can't disagree with Steve here one bit: Haywood will have the center spot after a career year last year, and Andray Blatche will be a huge X-Factor for the Wizards this season.  It's great for the Wizards to have Thomas back as enforcer, and JaVale McGee is a huge prospect, although he will need to bulk up if he plans to play center in the NBA.  Not included in the mix outside of the shooting skills of Blatche and Pecherov is the Antawn Jamison's protégé, Dominic McGuire, who has the ability to become a threat off the bench.

Record and Win
Training camp has opened up the media, and plenty of video clips are available for catch-up.  Speaking of video clips, Gilbert Arenas is co-sponsoring the "Small Steps Video Contest," where participants are encouraged to create a video no longer than three minutes that promotes health and exercise for a better life.  The author must be between the age of 14 and 24 to be eligible, and winners may receive up to $2,500 in NBA swag.  That's a lot of jerseys.

Individual Season Tickets Open for Sale
Also to note, today is October 1st, which marks the full sale of all individual NBA tickets.  Check out the Washington Wizards links to your right for more info.
