The Golden Bears continue rolling out the red carpet for the 2010 recruiting class. After receiving verbals from four top-tiered defensive players and securing two gray shirts, the Bears have now landed not one, but two offensive linemen in the class.
The two linemen brings Cal's 2010 class to six, not including the gray shirt players.
As I reported on Tuesday, April 21, Cal extended Chris Adcock his first scholarship offer.
It didn't take long for the 6'3" 301 lbs. offensive guard to make up his mind. Adcock, from Mesquite, Texas, has committed to the Bears for 2010, stating that the school is, "Just an overall great fit and great opportunity."
Moving to California isn't a problem for the soon-to-be high school senior. His mom is from Merced and his father played at U.C. Davis after coming from Vacaville.
Adcock told the Bear Insider's Jim McGill why he chose Cal:
Cal's academics played a big role in my decision. I'm planning on studying pre-med or engineering and Cal's a top school in both...At Cal, I can get a great education, great football, and play in the Pac 10.
Adcock's commitment comes on the heels of the verbal Cal received yesterday from Las Vegas guard, Geoffrey Gibson. For both recruits, first-year offensive line coach Steve Marshall was the lead recruiter, proving that he'll be able to bring in talent that will continue Cal's tradition of great offensive lines.
Gibson, a 6'4" 315 lbs. guard from Las Vegas, Nevada, gave his verbal to Marshall yesterday and is expecting to talk with coach Jeff Tedford today. As was the case with Adcock, Gibson cited education as a main factor for choosing the Bears as his next team. He told Jim McGill:
I was waiting on Cal because they were the best choice for me. They're one of the best schools in the nation and maybe the best for combining athletics and academics. My mom's always told me to only strive for the best so that's what I was looking for.
If Cal continues this pace, their 2010 class will definitely be among the best.

...very good offensive lineman that has a great combination of strength and technical skills. He is a stocky and stout lineman that is the prototype offensive guard. Physical with his hands and really uses them as a weapon both in the run and pass game. Comes off the football with power and leverage; low pads and a flat back. Completely dominates defensive linemen that try to play base technique; knocks them off the ball to the second level. Absolutely mauls defenders when down b locking and double teaming. Like a road grater, destroys the opponent when combination blocking.

Gibson has the size for offensive tackle but because we feel he lacks great athleticism for the position it might increase his chances to play at the major level of competition if he were moved to guard once he enters college...Does keep his feet moving and works to finish blocks. More of an in line maul type blocker; not explosive but does flash some playing strength. Plays on his feet and shows some ability to block 2nd level defenders.
