The hard-to-find, easy to sell Fisher Price Family Play Castle.

The pain of being out-shopped by a four year old is gone. The cure was simple and very unexpected. Having never seen one of these elusive play-sets before, remarkably, this past weekend, I found another one. And this time…I got there first. By comparison, the set the boy wound up with was a far better one with all sorts of beds, tables, chairs, and other extra stuff that the set I purchased is sadly missing. Not to mention (but I will) the one I purchased has been well played with and displays clearly its 30 plus years of age. A few accessories were included- the popular pink dragon and a full set of royalty: king, queen, prince, princess, and even a shining knight riding a battle-ravaged horse with missing ears and tail.

As for the other heads-of-state mentioned in the headline- this past weekend also brought an assortment of mapping scales (umm…rulers, if you will) from the United States Geological Survey. These might be antiquated, with hands-on map making now about as common as nail polish on a lumberjack (that’s a pretty shade of red, Lars), but hopefully they are not worthless. I’ve sold some architectural scales and such in the past, so I think they’ll find a new home without too much trouble.

Other finds this weekend: Hey, you remember Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, yes? I do, even if I can’t say that I remember being enamored with their pies. In any case, for 25 cents, I couldn’t pass up an old plastic serving tray bestowing them with the honor of being the greatest pizza ever. I guess if it was, then it must have been poor service that done them in. Not seen too often, it should go for around $8.00- $10.00. I also picked up another small box of Micro Machines (mouse poops, included)- not the greatest condition and many have missing pieces, however most should sell and the rest will hit the trash with a micro-thunk.

Recent auction updates: A nice bunch of Nintendo Game Boy cartridges sold for a total of $57.00, a Seiko Guitar tuner went for $9.99 and the Schlitz beer can lighter, ending tonight, has a $9.99 bid. That one could go a little higher.

Here’s to hoping the weather can cooperate this weekend!
