The 2008 college football season hasn’t even officially kicked off and UCLA and USC are already talking trash.
Despite the fact the rivalry game isn’t until Dec. 6, UCLA took out a rather bold full-page ad pointed at USC in the Los Angeles Times this week.
Apparently new head coach Rick Neuheisel and Bruin Nation think USC’s run of dominance in
“THE FOOTBALL MONOPOLY IN LOS ANGELES IS OFFICIALLY OVER,” the ad reads.

I have a feeling USC isn’t too worried about the Bruins just yet, with Saturday’s opener taking place in
Quarterback Mark Sanchez appears on track to start Saturday’s season opener after missing 17 days with a dislocated kneecap. (And you thought UCLA was crazy for taking out ads calling out USC.)
UCLA, meanwhile, hosts Tennessee at the Rose Bowl on Monday (5 p.m., ESPN), and I’m sure the Vols are thrilled that the Bruins are talking about USC more than three months before the regular-season finale at the same venue.
While the Bruins and Trojans are talking rivalry, four Pac-10 teams will actually be playing for conference bragging rights this week when the league opens its 93rd season.
Let the real games begin.
