Mya & DMitry get this season's first perfect score/ABC

With only five couples remaining in the competition for Monday's two-hour performance night on Dancing With The Stars, the night was overflowing with  pre-taped segments necessary to fill the scheduled time.  The show began with a piece narrated by host Tom Bergeron during which he reminded viewers of last week's double elimination of Michael Irvin and Mark Dacascos.

Tom then revealed the format of Monday's show stating that each of the five remaining couples would perform two distinct dances, one Ballroom, one Latin. During the Latin round, the celebs and their professional partners would each represent a different decade: the 60s, 70s, 80, 90s and the future--hmmm the future is a decade?   I Guess the upcoming scifi thriller 2012 must be true.

Once the first two taped pieces were over, the live show began as Tom and his co-host Samantha Harris introduced the stars.  The five remaining couples are: Aaron Carter & Karina Smirnoff, Donny Osmond & Kym Johnson, Mya & DMitry Chaplin, Joanna Krupa & Derek Hough and Kelly Osbourne & Louis van Amstel.

Still another pre-taped segment followed, this one narrated by judge Len Goodman with commentary from fellow judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, as they discussed what they would be looking for during the Ballroom Round.  During this piece, Len no-so-cleverly assigned nicknames to each of the five stars referring to Donny as The Born Entertainer, Joanna as The Glamour Girl, KellyThe Wild Child, Mya the Dancing Diva and Aaron the Boy Who Became a Man.

After the prerequisite rehearsal footage, it was finally time to get down to some dancing as Mya and DMitry took to the stage dancing the Quickstep.  After their beautiful performance, Len said, "My priority is How you dance, your priority is the Wow you dance.  He then goes on to say they got off to a sticky start during week one and tells her it went from bad to worse.  As only Len can, he then said, "Again tonight there is disappointment for me because I couldn't find anything to criticize."  Bruno chimed in, "Ladies and Gentlemen this is quality."  Carrie Ann explained that the Quickstep is one of the more difficult dances and complimented Mya on making it look, "as if it flowed out of your body with ease and grace."

Backstage with Samantha, Mya & DMitry awaited their scores.  A 9 from Carrie Ann and a pair of 10s from Len and Bruno gave them a 29 out of 30 for the first dance of the night.

Aaron and Karina's taped piece revealed that Karina danced most of the rehearsals with a high fever while Aaron danced with a face mask in an attempt to fend off any illness.  Their Fox Trot prompted Bruno to say, "I can really say how much work went into this but I feel it was very tense."  Carrie Ann agreed with Bruno, saying, "There was a bit of lost fluidity."  Len continued to exhibit his man/boy crush by saying, "Watching you is like watching my excited son in a toy shop.  I am proud of you no matter what happens."  While they made their way backstage to Samantha, Tom promo'd Tuesday night's results show which will include performances by Michael Buble' and British reality & internet sensation, Susan Boyle, who is expected to performing her Britain's Got Talent show-stopper, I Dreamed A Dream, the title of her upcoming November 23 debut release.  After chatting with Samantha about being saved by the judges last week, Aaron & Karina received a 7 from Carrie Ann and a pair of 8s from Len and Bruno for a score of 23.

Joanna & Derek's Quickstep followed.  Dressed in a flowing pastel gown with Derek in White tux & tails, their dance lacked grace.  The judges scores reflected by initial feeling when Carrie Ann noted they had a few steps that were out of sync.  Len said, "There was a lot of running about.  You lacked body contact.  This was not the standard for the quarter-finals."  Bruno questioned Joanna with, "What happened? You looked like you were running away from the scene of a crime." They tied with Aaron & Karina with 23, a pair of 8s from Carrie Ann & Bruno and a 7 from Len.

Kelly & Louis were up next.  During their taped rehearsal footage, Louis took drastic measures to keep Kelly from being distracted, going so far as to lock her laptop, iPhone and other items in a box and wearing the key around his neck on a string.  Even Kelly's beloved pups were banished from the rehearsal hall.  Their Fox Trot was lovely.  Len admitted, "It's been a long while since we've seen you do Ballroom and I'd forgotten how much grace and elegance you bring to the dance floor."  Bruno complimented Kelly's movement by saying she seemed weightless.  Carrie Ann gushed, "You have a secret weapon.  The moment you have a breakthrough, and you have a lot of them, the audience goes crazy for you.  A pair of 8s from Carrie Ann  & Len and a 9 from Bruno put them above their two of their three predecessors with 25 out of 30.

Donny & Kym finished out the Ballroom portion of the night with a Viennese Waltz that earned the duo a standing ovation.  Bruno said, "You can really play it.  It was like watching a Lifetime movie:  romantic, emotional a bit of drama." Carrie Ann simply stated, "I found it mesmerizing."  Len oddly quipped, "It was a bit arty farty."  9s from Carrie Ann & Bruno and an 8 from Len gave Donny & Kym a 26 for Ballroom.

The Latin Round began with a professional exhibition featuring DWTS professional dancers, Tony Dovolani and Mark Ballas, alongside other Latin professional dancers. Another taped piece with Len as narrator followed in which he again assigned nicknames for the round and the judges expressed their hopes and warned of their cautions for the multiple-decade-inspired Latin Round.

Mya & DMitry brought the Samba to the disco era with their 70s-influenced take on the classic Latin style.  Mya channeled the divas of disco as she incorporated the look of Diana Ross with the sultriness of Donna Summer. Carrie Ann beamed, "That was beyond belief."  Len finally saw what I've seen all season when he said, "Mya, you were on fire.  Your hips were hypnotic."  Bruno was uncharacteristically to the point with, "You are unbelievable."  With triple 10s all the way 'round, Mya & DMitry received the season's first perfect score of 30, giving them 59 out of a possible 60 for the night.

A 90s Samba was next as Aaron & Karina prepared for their dance.  During their rehearsal footage they both wore surgical masks, looking like SARS news footage from a couple of years back.  Aaron was thrilled they got the 90s, having gotten his start as a child-recording act during the later part of that decade.  Len again turned dirty-old-man with his compliments.  Bruno more realistically said, "I thought it was going to be a disaster, but it was a success."  Carrie Ann jumped on the band wagon with, "You are truly a great performer."  Triple 9s gave Aaron & Karina 27 for Latin and a total of 50 for the night.

With glow-in-the-dark accents on their costumes, and severe hair and makeup, Joanna & Derek looked like what can only be described as Lady GaGa meets a reboot of Vanilla Ice.  Their futuristic Paso Doble was called masterful by both Bruno and Len, while Carrie Ann labeled it, "Outstanding."

As they made their way backstage to join Samantha for their scores, Tom once again promo'd Tuesday's results show with the announcement that Kenny Mayne, Jerry Rice, Stacy Keibler and Len would once again provide a rundown of the remaining couples as they parody ESPN's popular Sports Center in the perennial favorite, Dance Center segment.

Once backstage, a 9 from Carrie Ann and a pair of 10s from Len and Bruno gave Joanna & Derek 29 for their Paso, thus earning 52 for the night.

A 60s Jive seemed perfect for energetic Kelly & Louis.  She revealed that her fist music video featured 60s-inspired dance moves.  Side Note: The video was for Kelly's 2002 cover of the Madonna classic, Papa Don't Preach.

Following Kelly & Louis' 60s-inspired Jive, Len said, "You have been an absolute revelation to me.  You came back week after week, stronger and stronger."  Bruno kept the 60s-vibe going with a simple, "Groovy Baby."  Carrie Ann complimented Kelly with, "Definitely one of your best performance."  An 8 from Carrie Ann and a pair of 9s from Len and Bruno gave Kelly & Louis 26 for their Latin dance, with a total for the night of 51.

Dressed as a sort of middle-aged Adam Ant and a skinny version of 80s Madonna meets Cyndi Lauper, Donny & Kym ended the Latin Round, and the night with a whack-job of a Paso.  Len said it was, "The most crazy, bizarre, scary Paso Doble."  He further commented that Donny looked like a cross between Adam Ant and Season 6 DWTS celebrity, Adam Carolla.  Bruno perfectly described the dance by saying, "That had more camp in it than a drag queen's convention."  Carrie Ann thought it was hysterical, adding, "You brought back the feel, but it was a little insane."  Triple 8s from the judges gave Donny & Kym 24 for their Paso.  They finished the night with 50 out of 60.

Tonight's results show will narrow the field to the final four, but the big buzz is whether or not Kelly's mum, Sharon Osbourne will be in the audience, and if she is, what her reaction will be to musical guest, Susan Boyle.  Just last week, Sharon, who sits on the judges' panel for American's Got Talent, made an appearance on Sirius XM's The Opie & Anthony Show and let go with a string of hurtful expletives while laughing about Susan Boyle's appearance.  Perhaps Sharon should take a look at the clip below, then some older photos of herself before saying such mean-spirited things.
