Anne Hill – A martial artist making a difference

Anne Hill, a 1st degree black belt in Aikido, is an internationally recognized expert on dreams. Her book, What To Do When Dream Go Bad: A Practical Guide to Nightmares was just (Serpentine Music & Books).  She writes in the book that she was drawn to this subject because she noticed that in her public speaking the “audience [would] perk up when I start[ed] talking about nightmares.” She then writes “dreaming helps us assimilate new information…and makes sure we are aware of critical threats to our well-being.”

As part of her public outreach work, Anne also has a weekly public radio call-in show on KOWS-FM (107.3) Thursday mornings from 9:00 – 10:00 am. The station, located in picturesque Occidental, CA, serves a West Sonoma County population and streams on the Internet at www.kows.fm. The show gives callers an opportunity to discuss their dreams: good, bad and puzzling.

Specializing in dream and sleep health, as well as helping those suffering from insomnia, Anne is a member of the International Association for the Study of Dreams, an organization which builds bridges between scientific, spiritual and psychological investigations of dreams. With the increased pressures caused by the current financial and world condition, as well as the issues all face from daily life, the work that this group is doing is vital.

Anne also consults on matters of dream health for corporations and medical clinics. Her insights into the topography of dreams make her an ideal person to explore this world we all visit daily. Anne also writes for The Huffington Post as well as her own blog, Blog o’ Gnosis.  Her Huffington Post blog, “Dreams & Culture,” explored dreams reported during the past presidential election--dreams that many had about President Obama and the other candidates. Obviously, with so many hopes riding on the election, this period of time proved fertile ground for dreams. Her Blog o’ Gnosis explores “Dreams, Life & Spirit.”

She has written this about how her martial arts training has informed her work in the world: “O’Sensei [Morihei Ueshiba – 1883-1969, the Founder of Aikido] was insistent that the true purpose of aikido was to be in the center of creation at every moment, thus re-creating that floating bridge in our movements and in doing so bringing peace to the world.” In her dream work and her work in the world, Anne reflects that centeredness. Anne obtained her black belt from Centerfield Aikido and now trains at Wellspring Aikido Arts.
