Nothing pleases a writer more than provoking thought while getting people to think. Of course thinking is becoming less and less important. The difference between the brightest person in the world and the most unintelligent person is a mere nine seconds. That's the time it takes to Google and answer to most questions.
The column I wrote last week on the Unite Here! Local 2 hotel workers in San Francisco garnered an interesting array of comments placing me at both sides of the intellect scale. One reader commented that "The world is such a better place because of experts on everything like John Foley." Of course the author, Brandon was being politely facetious. However, the thought was kind. Another writer, who didn't have the courage to post his name, claimed that he "was not as stupid as (John Foley)." I may have to question that but probably agree with him. He should have had the courage to sign his name.
The strike, only schedule for three days - just enough time to take revenue out of the pockets of the picketers, the retailers around Union Square, the taxi drivers, and the other tourist venues, has ended for now. However, other three day disruptions are scheduled soon.
But one of the most interesting acts that came out of the strikers circus was the YouTube video that Dani Zuniga and Simar Bal made. The piece has a very interesting dialogue in the background over laid above the music. One striker actually has the arrogance to say the hotel needs him more than he needs the hotel.
Now that's stupid.
