Best Beaches in Tampa Bay

August 20, 2:16 AM
by Vickie Ferguson, Tampa Bay Examiner

Touted as one of the top ten beaches in America, the three miles of powder white sand of Clearwater Beach is the perfect place for basking in the Florida sun for the perfect tan and then cooling off with a quick dip in the Gulf. All you need is your beach towel, suntan lotion and a beach umbrella to spend the day. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance to choose from including the very popular Frenchy's Rockaway Grill located right on the beach.

Plan on staying till just before sunset so you can watch the sun settle over the Gulf from Pier 60 where not only will you witness spectacular sunsets but you'll be entertained by artisans, craft displays and live music. Take a stroll out on the pier and enjoy the combination of gentle breezes, the aroma of salty air and beautiful views. A very nice way to end the day.

Not far from Clearwater Beach you'll find even more sun and fun in St. Petersburg. Travel along the coast and stop by the many Gulf beaches along the way including Indian Rocks Beach, a favorite vacation spot, Treasure Island with its numerous beachfront hotels, motels, restaurants and shops through to Pass-A-Grille and on to St. Pete Beach, another very popular destination for vacationers and locals, too.

Florida is well-known for its beautiful beaches and another one on the list of "must visits" is Fort DeSoto park. The long expanse of white sand, cool waters, fishing pier and camping accommodations make Fort DeSoto a favorite for both residents and visitors to the Sunshine state.

A visit to Caladesi Island State Park means a visit to the #1 ranked beach in America! This gem is accessible only by private boat or by the ferry service from Honeymoon Island. Caladesi Island State Park is a little piece of paradise and well worth the trip.
