Did you watch Michael Vick on 60 Minutes?

Did you get the impression that he really understands what he did?  You know, the part about killing dogs.  He said he was sorry that he "allowed it to happen." Not exactly what you'd call owning up to killing a living being for not doing his bidding.

Michael Vick is who he is for reasons likely related to human development and the royal treatment of athletes. Last night he seemed emotionally disconnected from his heinous acts. He is probably very sorry for what happened, but not about killing the dogs so much as ending up in jail and losing his status, which of course affected his family.

Mr. Vick likely will not participate in dog fighting again. Maybe his association with the Humane Society of the United States can dissuade others from participating in dog fighting.  It will help if the audiences are bigger than the one shown in last night's segment.  The Eagles and the NFL could get on board and wage a war against dog fighting with some of the revenue Mr. Vick will be bringing in.  Mr. Wayne Pacelle provided grave numbers on current participation in dog fighting---sufficient to fill a stadium.

As time passes, maybe Mr. Vick will find some passion about the cause that has been bestowed upon him. Maybe his actions will connect to his heart and he will find tears for the animals he killed and maimed, not just the tears he admits shedding for himself for being incarcerated and away from his family.  Oh, and this writer must add, away from the limelight.  Maybe his making that connection is not important.

What IS important is that the surviving dogs are safe, thanks to the Best Friends Animal Society. The rest all remains to be seen.

What was your take on the interview?
