Rave and raversThe alcove was small, simply an area used to access electrical panels and other industrial components of the building. There was a ladder bolted to the wall and above them a metal bridge that was suspended from the ceiling and ran across the length of the building.
“Fancy,” Crystal E muttered, looking around.
“Well, it’s under construction at the moment. Soon I’ll have marble flooring and this lovely golden wall paper that I’m sure will match your eyes.”
“I guess this’ll have to do then,” she said, laughing.
“So, you said three mollies and six green?” Ken asked as he took out a plastic baggie full of what looked like candy.
“Yup, upon your expert approval of course,” she said. The last of the chemical was draining from her body and she felt quite lucid and awake. She leaned up against the ladder, each cool step pressing into her body. She looked at Ken as he counted out the pills. His presence alone, in this dark corner, was making Crystal E feel vulnerable and sexy. She began to worry how amazing he’ll look once she swallowed her next dose, but she had to shake that thought, expel the helpless energy.
“As your latest supplier, I advise you to take this one first, then the green.” Ken handed her the clear capsule. The mollie, as it was called, was filled with powder, slight twinkles of crystal lay in between the white and for a moment Crystal E’s heart raced so fast she felt like she was about to jump out of an airplane.
“I’m pretty sure I’ve never had one of these before,” she said.
“It’s quite enjoyable, I must say,” he replied. “Did you take any enhancers before you started your night?”
Crystal E gulped it down and took a swig of her beer. “Enhancers?” she asked after swallowing.
“Piracetam, Vitamin C?” Crystal E stared at him blankly. He laughed an animalistic yelp with deep notes that lingered in Crystal E’s ear.
“Piracetam is a ‘smart drug’ it’s supposed to enhance memory, intelligence, and your attention. Pretty much make your trip more controllable so you’re not all over the place you know? Vitamin C enhances your overall high.” Ken explained.
As Ken spoke, Crystal E’s mind began to wander. She could understand his words and grasp the point but she couldn’t stop thinking about what she had just ingested and how it was going to make her feel. Ken continued his explanation, breaking down what each enhancer could actually do to a person, what he had already taken that night. Pretty soon, the ladder she was leaning on felt as if it had disappeared and the wall was sucking her in. Her stomach felt concave and her head was heavy. Ken’s words became a blurry mix of gibberish yet it was pleasurable just to hear him talking. His face was so honest, she kept thinking.
“Do you have a good heart?” Crystal E blurted out. Ken laughed that great chuckle again.
“You’re feeling that mollie already huh?”
“I guess I am, let’s get out of the dark. What do ya say?” Crystal E replied. “I gave you the money for these right?” Crystal E was clenching the pills in her hand.
“No, but they’re on me tonight,” said Ken.
“No, no, I can’t let you do that. It’ll put me in your pocket and I wouldn’t feel right. I just met you! No, let me pay you.” Crystal E knew she was babbling yet she felt confident with the chemical trickling through her again. She grabbed his hand and held on tight, massaging it and concentrating hard on how good human contact felt.
“It’s fine, listen, shhh.” Ken put a finger up to her mouth to quiet Crystal E down. “I want you to take these under one condition.”
Oh great here it comes, she thought.
“Nothing comes for free!” she snapped at him, laughing. She realized how frail she was becoming and how little control she really had over the words that kept falling out of her mouth. How could she do anything at this point without it being a natural instinct? Like breathing, she automatically kept talking, fondling the walls.
“Dance with me, that’s all I’m asking!” he grinned.
“Sure it is,” Crystal E said. “Oh God, did I say that out loud?” As they emerged from the dark corner, the subtle neon lights cascading across the
floor zig zagged their way into Crystal E’s mind, solidifying any doubts she had before about whether or not she had ever been this high. Luckily for her, more friends and drugs were only a steamy walk away to the other side of the patio.
