The Penguins winning the Stanley Cup last Friday seems to have everyone in Pittsburgh in an upbeat mood.

Anyone looking for work during these trying times have been able to set aside their worries for a couple of days.   At the same time, hiring managers are also in an upbeat mood, savoring the glory of the Penguins win. Use this to your advantage. If you’ve been putting off a phone call to a potential hiring manager or haven’t made that post interview follow up call regarding your recent interview, now is the perfect time. You have the perfect ice breaker at your fingertips. Everyone in Pittsburgh is caught up in the Stanley Cups return to Pittsburgh.

Have your call mapped out with your talking points. If it is regarding an initial interview, review the job requirements for the position, the company’s website and recent press releases (found on the company website). Also be prepared to discuss what in your background makes you a perfect fit for the position, match this to the job requirements, etc. Share why you would be a tremendous asset to the company and then ask for the interview.
If your call is regarding your status after a recent interview, know what makes you a strong candidate for the position. Reasons will be similar to what was outlined in the previous paragraph along with information obtained during your interview. Ask about taking the next step in the process. Be prepared to step out of your comfortzone and let the hiring manager know you want the job.
Use the mood in Pittsburgh to your advantage today!
You’ll find more information on stepping out of your comfort zone in a recent article.
