The worst has happened. The popular sci-fi series “Primeval” on BBC America has been cancelled because it was too costly.
A source close to the Primeval production team apparently told Total Sci-Fi that “Basically ITV have changed their policy about drama before 9pm in that they’ve decided they really don’t want any, at least not of the quality and cost of Primeval.”
This is disasterous for fans – even moreso since the third season ends on an unresolved cliffhanger.
“At the point where we finished the third series, we had every reason to believe we would be doing a fourth. Had we known there was any likelihood of cancellation, clearly we wouldn’t have left half the cast marooned up a tree in the distant past. We can understand that some fans might be frustrated by this ending and we’re sorry for that. It certainly wasn’t our plan to leave things so uncertain.”
In spite of the cancellation announcement a glimmer of hope shines in the knowledge that a full length feature film is under development at Warner Bros. and there are “credible rumors” that Impossible Pictures and Warner Bros. are also discussing how to develop a new Primeval television series in the US.
