Rock singer Reeve Carney will play the coveted roll of Peter Parker/Spiderman in the Broadway production of "Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark."

Carney is lead singer in the rock band Carney, which just released "Mr. Green," its first album.  Carney, 26, has appeared in several films including the upcoming movie Shakespeare's "The Tempest," where he plays Ferdinand.

Director Julie Taymor said, “Having recently finished shooting The Tempest with Reeve as the young prince, I am thrilled to cast him in an entirely different role as Peter Parker in Spiderman. When I first saw Reeve, he was performing with his terrific band Carney. The music of Bono and Edge requires an extraordinary talent— not only is Reeve a great rock and roll singer but his acting is equally fresh and authentic.”

The Broadway cast of "Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark" will also include Evan Rachel Wood as Mary Jane Watson, Parker's girl friend, and Alan Cumming as Norman Osborn, who was Peter’s friend turned villain Green Goblin.

The webslinging musical, with music by Bono and Edge, is scheduled to open in 2010 at the Hilton Theatre (dates pending).  With a budget of upwards of $40 million, the highly anticipated musical adaption has created extensive renovations to one of Broadway’s largest theaters.
