I know Zorro's a movie icon that should generate dashing images of Douglas Fairbanks and Tyrone Power but the image of Zorro burned into my mind is the truly goofy one George Hamilton created in the 1981 movie “Zorro the Gay Blade”. All I remember is him leaping absurdly around in cape, dingle-balled hat and tiny John Waters moustache, waving a rapier and dropping witty quips. I guess with that silliness in mind, the new YouTube contest sponsored by publisher 505 Games makes perfect sense.
This May, 505 is publishing a new Wii action adventure game called “The Destiny of Zorro” and to celebrate, they're partnering with YouTube in a call for the most outrageous, debonair and fierce impressions of Zorro contestants can muster.
Contestants can be any age or gender and entries will be judged on how well they represent the mask-wearing icon. I imagine that means costumes, props and cheesy pencil moustaches aren't only encouraged, they're essential. Contestants will also be judged on their interpretation of Zorro's signature 'Z' move in terms of creativity, originality, personality and ahem....display of emotion. Why am I suddenly envisioning those Dos Equis commercials for “the most interesting man in the world”?
You may be asking yourself, “Why would anyone want to do this?” Well aside from the opportunity of impersonating a fictional Spanish nobleman with a fabulous alter-ego, 505 is offering a pretty good incentive.
The winner swashbuckles away with a complete home entertainment system including a Vizio TV, a Nintendo WiiTM and a copy of the new Wii game, The Destiny of Zorro. To enter, upload your video submission of 90-seconds or less on YouTube's Destiny of Zorro contest page.
Stay thirsty my friends.
