True Beauty's Julia Anderson
Native Texan Julia Anderson is a beauty, no doubt about it. The former beauty queen recently graced the pages of People Magazine as one of their Most Beautiful. But there is an old saying that goes, ‘Beauty is only skin deep,’ and another that says, ‘It’s what’s inside that counts.’ As the winner of ABC’s popular reality show, True Beauty, Julia Anderson proved she is beautiful inside and out.

Mike Parker – What does True Beauty mean?

Julia Anderson – True beauty is your own sense of your character. To me it means staying true to yourself and your beliefs. That applies to everything. It applies to taking care of your outward appearance as well. You want to take care of the inside and the outside.

Parker – While you were competing on the True Beauty reality show, did you really have no idea what the judging criteria was?

Julia – No, none of us did, honestly. Weird things happened but we just thought it was the producer setting things up to try to make us paranoid. I would look around to try to find the hidden cameras and just couldn’t do it. I later found out they had three cameras recording us. Wow, technology, huh?

Parker – What was it that instilled the qualities into your character that allowed you to persevere until the trying circumstances of the show?

Julia – I decided from the very beginning to stay true to myself. I wanted to walk away from the show with no regrets. If I was going get kicked off the show for being too nice, then so be it. And it is a good thing because if the show had been judged by any other criteria I probably would have been kicked off. It was the best kind of reality show competition I could have won. It was something the whole family could be proud of. It showed a lot about how I was raised.

Parker – You started taking dance lessons at three years old and your bio says you discovered that you could use dance as a means of helping you reach out to your community. What does that mean?

Julia – It means a lot of things, but my main goal is to open up a dance studio for kids with disabilities. I worked with Special Olympics and it changed my life. I really want to feed into that. I can’t imagine my life with out dance. I think if I can introduce others to the joy of dance it can change the world. I perform at nursing homes and for different events. It is a good way to show my passion.

Parker – I understand that in addition to being a correspondent for the Tyra Banks Show you are pursuing career in acting. How’s that panning out for you?

Julia – I am trying (laughs). That’s why I moved to LA. I haven’t even got an agent yet. I’m still looking at all the boxes I have to unpack. I want to get settled in and really get a sense of home. Then I’ll go at it full force. I miss Texas and never thought I would move away. But this is what I need to do right now for my career. My family is really behind me and are very supportive of the move.

Parker – A career in the entertainment world, particularly the acting world of Hollywood, can seem to entail a good bit of, shall we say moral compromise. As you enter this world, what are your non-negotiables?

Julia – I’ve actually been in the entertainment world for a while so I’m not new to the pressure to compromise. It’s true that Hollywood presents a different degree of entertainment. I just want to stay true to myself. I don’t want to promote anything I don’t believe in. There are a lot of non-negotiables for me, but it depends on a lot of circumstances. The bottom line is I’ll stay true to myself and what I believe.

The Seven Questions

1. What’s your favorite sound?
Julia – I love good music. I love the ocean. And I have an English bulldog who snores. I love the sound he makes.

2. What makes you happy?
Julia – Being independent. Living my dreams. And the support and backing of my family.

3. What makes you angry?
Julia – When people are judgmental.

4. What is the secret of success?
Julia – Perseverance. Bottom line. Done.

5. If you could have dinner with anyone in history, living or dead, who would it be?
JuliaDave Matthews. I’ve been in love with him my whole life. I have a huge crush on him. And Savion Glover. He is one of the world’s greatest tap artists and tap is another one of my passions.

6. What is the epitaph that is written on your tombstone?
Julia – I’ll have to come back that one. Not something I want to think about at this stage of my life.

7. When you get to heaven, what is the first thing you want to hear God say to you?
Julia – To make it to heaven is the ultimate goal. Just an embrace and a hug. I wouldn’t need to hear Him say anything.
