British Pop Star Portrays Teenaged Victorian Sleuth

Former British pop star, Billie Piper (Mansfield Park, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) reprises her role as the spirited sleuth Sally Lockhart when PBS debuts The Shadow in the North on Sunday, September 28. Piper originally portrayed the teenage sleuth in MASTERPIECE THEATRE’s adaptation of author Philip Pullman’s Victorian era thriller for young adults, Ruby in the Smoke, which PBS will encore on Sunday, September 21.

In The Shadow of the North, Sally sets out on the trail of more evil than she can imagine. The case involves an elderly woman who loses her money in a bad investment, a conjuror who is pursued by thugs, and a clairvoyant who happens to mention the name of the richest man in Europe.

The Shadow in the North also stars JJ Feild ("The Complete Jane Austen": Northanger Abbey) as Fred Garland.
