RNC Picks the Right Place to Party

August 13, 9:06 AM

Exel Energy Center
Republican Party at the Xcel Energy Center

Luciano Pavarotti performed there. Paul McCartney performed there. The Police, Billy Joel, Simon & Garfunkel, Prince, and Neil Diamond have performed there. The 2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championships were held there. The 2004 International Ice Hockey Federation World Cup of Hockey was held there. The 2006 U.S. Gymnastics National Championships were held there. Bottom line: when the Grand Old Party decided to throw a party, I mean a really big party like the Republican National Convention, the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN was the logical place to host it.

This state-of-the-art facility boasts 74 executive suites, multiple lounges and private areas, full-service restaurants with upscale food and beverage offerings, four seating levels, plus the Al Shaver Press Box on the fifth level, with the ability to seat 20,000 guests (the RNC is expecting 45,000 party-goers, so anticipate standing room only).

No word yet on how many balloons the facility can accommodate, but chances are it will exceed the 100,000 biodegradable balloons that were dropped from 50 nets hung 75 feet above the floor of Madison Square Garden at the 2004 Convention.
