With the new year comes yet another special edition from VW, but at least this one has a few upgrades other than paint. It's name? The Jetta TDI Cup "Street".
Inspired by the TDI Cup racers, this Jetta looks like it'll be wearing VW's angry Thunder Bunny body kit, consisting of front and rear bumpers and new side skirts.
While the track-day versions' 2.0 liter diesel power plants are upgraded to put out 170 horsepower and "nearly" 300 lb-ft of torque, the street version retains the everyman TDI's 140-horse mill that puts down 236 lb-ft to the front wheels through either a six-speed or VW's DSG.
As for performance upgrades, the brakes get bigger calipers (which happen to be painted red), and the suspension inherits a few bits from the GLI: sway bars, springs, and dampers. Lastly, as is only natural, the wheels are upgraded to 18-in Charlestons.
Inside are sports seats covered in Interlagos cloth (that's the cool retro plaid stuff, viewable in a GTI in the gallery below), paddle shifters (if you opt for the DSG), and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel. All in all not mind-blowing, but nice upgrades nonetheless. The price should come in around $25,000.
