When it comes to Boxsters, this is about as racy as it gets from the factory (so far). It's called the Spyder, and Porsche's eight-legged freak has been on a diet.
The engineers took out all the fancy items people take for granted in their modern vehicles, like the automatic soft-top, daytime running lights, for lights, A/C, and stereo. Hey, all those things are for pu**ies anyway (but they're optional, of course, for you man-sissies).
Other weight saving bits include carbon fiber seats along with some GT3 RS hand-me-downs: "aluminum door skins and lightweight interior panels". Nifty. The result is 80 kg (176 lbs, or yours truly) shaved off the top.
And speaking of tops, the Spyder's is more like a tarp that can be attached above the passenger compartment in case the weather turns sour. As for me, I'll tough it out in the wet, because the double-your-pleasure-bubble engine cover looks so damn good.
Performance features include that fixed wing, higher output, standard LSD (it means limited-slip differential, you acid head), and a sports suspension, meaning the Spyder rides 20mm lower on those new GT3-ish rims. For the Porsche-ficial figures, look no further than down. If you want to see it live, hit the L.A. Auto Show next month.
