E3 has come and gone again.  I unfortunately spent the entire event sitting in a cubicle.  Lucky for me the internet did all the work for me.  This was a fairly good E3 for the big N.  I decided to pick 5 of the games that I am eagerly salivating for.

Everybody has already heard about the new Mario’s and Metroid. Nintendo’s first party franchises are always reliably awesome. The one thing that stood out to me this year was the larger presence of third party games. Here are the five games that caught my eye

Monado: Beginning of the World

A new Wii RPG?  So far the Wii has not been the system for the RPG player.  Do I know anything about this game?  No, no I do not.  The trailer looks promising and I’ll take what I can get.

The Grinder

The Grinder is the new game by High Voltage.  It is a spiritual successor to The Conduit.  The gameplay shown at E3 seems to be very similar to Left 4 Dead.  You and 4 other characters must work together to pound through vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural crap.  It looks pretty rough but has promise.  The big problem with his game is that it makes me want L4D on the Wii.  Hopefully with more time this game will get its own identity.

Tatsunoko Vs Capcom

News broke about this port during the pre E3 hype.  The game is a gorgeous 2d/3d fighter and a new entry in the Capcom VS series.  What makes this game even sweeter is the announcement that there will be new content in the US release.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up

Do you like Super Smash Brothers?  Do you like the Ninja Turtles?  Well this game is a heavenly union of both. So far the game looks to be every bit aas good as Super Smash Brothers.  I only hope the designers take advantage of the immense cast of characters the TMNT franchise has.  The games been announced for awhile now and I have only seen 7 character.

Red Steel 2

The first Red Steel was a game that lives in infamy as the biggest disappointment of the Wii’s entire library.  I truly believe this game is what deterred the hardcore gamers away from the Wii during its infancy.  Red Steel was to have realistic sword fighting; revolutionizing the first person shooter genre. All it did was make my wrists hurt.

Red Steel 2 got announced to a resounding “meh”.  Then a teaser trailer was released and everybody got cautiously interested.  The game was showcased at E3 to much buzz..  It is a completely different game than its predecessor. There is a new art stye that impressively uses cell shaded graphics to give the game a weird oriental western feel.

The best thing about Red Steel 2 is its incorporation of Wii Motion Plus.  This time the fun swordplay is delivered in a big way. If only this was the Red Steel released during the Wii launch.
