Over the past month or so I been researching hotels across the United States and their pet policies.  If case you didn't know it, most hotels will let you bring you pet into your hotel room...fur, fleas, ticks and all.  The hotels will charge you an extra fee for what they call "deep cleaning" so when you leave, the room will be back to their normal standards.  Well guess what...they are not. Twice in the last month we have had to change rooms due to excessive fleas biting our legs. And these were very high end hotels.   It was a surprise to me when I talked with the general manager of the Lowes in Santa Monica and he told me that every room in his place allows pets, same for the Fairmont in San Jose and hundreds of others across the United States.  Maybe it's just a sign of the times...hotels want to make it easier for pet owners to stay at their establishments and make a few extra bucks at the same time.  I get that people love their pets and don't want to kennel then while their on vacation, but with the latest outbreak of the deadly H1N1 flu virus striking a cat, it may be time for hotel operators to rethink their pet policy.  More on my research in an upcoming post.
