When I first read this bit of news I wasn't sure if it was a put on. After all, the original trailer for Machete was a fake preview placed before Planet Terror.
But according to Horror-Movies.ca, Jessica Alba, Robert DeNiro and Steven Seagal will all be starring in the same picture. DeNiro I believe is gracious with sharing the screen, but Seagal never has been. Even seeing Seagal with another known actor is rare. I can only think of Seagal and Kurt Russell in Executive Decision and Seagal and Keenan Ivory Wayons in The Glimmer Man.
Just to verify, I did try some other sources. While it wouldn't surprise me to see Robert Rodriguez choose a diverse cast, Seagal is still an odd choice. I think I would prefer to see Chuck Norris, but he's kind of on a patriotic Christianity bent these days.
CinemaBlend.com confirms the Steven Seagal casting, however, IMDB lists Seagal as a rumor for the role. It's also a rumor that Steven Seagal is now a musician (I don't care what the actor says on his site, it's still a rumor).
Danny Trejo, who starred in the original fake trailer seems to be definitely cast as the main character Machete, but Jeff Fahey, also in the fake trailer, doesn't seem to be mentioned yet. Jeff Fahey, if you're not aware, has a checkered past of various roles, but I'll remember him mostly as the drifter wanna-be guitar player in Psycho 3.
If you think the casting can't get much weirder, Horror-Movies.ca is also saying Lindsay Lohan and Don Johnson are involved. Don Johnson most likely got called in or called himself in because of his association with Cheech Marin who is a longtime buddy of Rodriguez. Remember Don and Cheech starred together in the TV series Nash Bridges.
Machete will likely be a great movie. You can't go wrong with a catchy line like "They just f****d with the wrong Mexican!" If you haven't already seen Planet Terror, which was part of the Grindhouse double feature, you'll get a taste of what's to come. Both Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino are having a hell of a lot of fun making films. Shouldn't that always be how it is?
