Get ready to make some noise. JazzFest, the annual 2-day, 2-stage, outdoor Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Festival, is getting ready to take over the city. Best of all, JazzFest is free! 90,000 people were estimated to have attended JazzFest 2008. The dates this year are July 17th-18th. Headliners include Bettye LaVette, Elvin Bishop, Keb’ Mo’, and Lil Brian & The Zydeco Travelers.
The festival will be held at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, SD, which is located at the intersection of Minnesota Ave and I-229. There's a $10 fee to park at Yankton Trail Park. To avoid traffic and parking fees, try parking at another park nearby and walk along the bike trail to the event at Yankton Trail Park. Thinking of riding your bike? Even better. Spoke-n-Sport will be running a bike valet just off of the bike trail south of the main stage area.
JazzFest is held in an open field, so it's best to bring a lawn chair or blanket to set on the grass. JazzFest is very kid friendly so bring the whole family. The kids area will have inflatable games, arts and crafts, and a whole bunch of music performances and activities. Click here for the kids area line up of activities.
Not sure if jazz music is your thing? Chances are there will still be something you'll enjoy. The JazzFest website explains, "JazzFest features a wide variety of music every year including jazz, blues, Zydeco, Latin, reggae, big band, rock, soul and funk among others." Even if you don't like music, who can resist the summer festival food and people watching opportunities?
