Spring rolls recalled in New England and Florida
Original Rangoon has recalled its Taste of Inspirations Vegetable Spring Rolls because they may contain shrimp, which isn’t listed among the ingredients and could prove a deadly surprise for people with shellfish allergies. The spring rolls were distributed to Hannaford Supermarkets in New England and New York, and Sweetbay Supermarket in Florida. Additional information
Salmonella with your cantaloupe?
Northern Californians and Nevadans who like cantaloupe in the morning may have to alter their routines this week. Raley’s and its subsidiary stores Bel Air, Nob Hill Foods, and Food Source, have recalled 1,120 cases of Del Monte whole cantaloupes after inspectors found traces of Salmonella in samples of the fruit. The melons were sold between Oct. 5 and Oct. 16. Additional information

Baby food recalled
Plum Organics has recalled its Plum Organics Apple & Carrot Portable Pouches organic baby food because it may be contaminated with botulism. The baby food wasn’t processed correctly so its acidity level is below what is considered safe, making it vulnerable to contamination with Clostridium botulinum. The baby food is distributed through Toys-R-Us and Babies-R-Us nationwide. Additional information
Sausages produced without oversight
Vatran's Fine Foods, Inc. of Tracy, Calif., is recalling approximately 11,500 pounds of assorted meat and poultry products because they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. Sold under the names Montibella and Vatrans, the foods recalled include sausages made from poultry, pork, and lamb, as well as lard. Additional information
...but the tonsils are free of charge
Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. of Milwaukee has recalled more than 5,500 pounds of beef tongue because it may still contain parts of the tonsils. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service require the removal of tonsils from beef tongue as a precaution against Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, better known as Mad Cow Disease. Just in case you thought 'yolk' referred to oxen
Although it states it clearly in the name, Domega International Co. is recalling its White Lotus Seed Paste Moon Cakes (2 Yolks) because eggs are not listed among the holiday treat’s ingredients. Moon cakes are traditionally served during the Chinese August Moon Festival but are eaten all year. The cakes were distributed nationwide. Additional information
Hazelnut spread may contain peanuts
International Bazaar Inc. is recalling a single lot of hazel nut spread because it may contain a trace amount of undeclared peanuts. Distributed in the United States as Kroger Hazelnut Spread, it was distributed to Kroger supermarkets in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. The producer, Nutkao, is based in Italy and first received word of possible problems with the sweet spread from customers in France where the product is distributed under another name. Trail mix with a little something extra
Undeclared sulfites are the culprit in a recall of Agro Sun Dried Fruits and Nuts Tropical Mix, produced by Agro Foods Inc. of Cliffside Park, New Jersey. Sulfites are a potential allergen and can cause severe anaphylactic shock in people with sulfite allergies. The trail mix was distributed in 24-ounce packages around metropolitan New York City.
