I’m not much of a drinker. That’s not to say I’m a tea-totaller, but I rarely drink more than a glass of wine or a beer in a week and I’ll frequently go several weeks without touching anything alcoholic. Having said that, I did enjoy a nice glass of Stella Artois yesterday with Belgian-style pommes frites and a side of kalamata olive-flavored catsup.
In the course of my professional life, however, I am frequently introduced to things with which I am completely unfamiliar. This morning, for example, I accepted a writing assignment involving government licensing and limoncello, a lemon liqueur from Italy about which I knew nothing. Doing a little research, I ran across the web site of a man who has evidently dedicated his life to creating the perfect bottle of limoncello. There are, I’m sure, far worse ways to spend one’s life.
With great patience and an even better sense of humor (“So far in my limoncello-making career I’ve made very few batches that would qualify as unmitigated train wrecks. This is just one such batch.”) he logs his efforts at LimoncelloQuest and passes on a lot of solid information along the way.
