It's Thanksgiving, you have a house full of guests, including that snarky cousin who has delighted in your personal disasters ever since that incident back in second grade, and the turkey/pie/rolls are burnt beyond recognition/fallen/still frozen. Don't panic. There is help. Free help. Even on Thanksgiving. If you run into any culinary disasters the folks at the following numbers and web sites are available to help you out. Be forewarned: the live help lines close at 3 p.m. Central Time or earlier.

Betty Crocker: 1-800-446-1898. America's go-to gal since the dawn of time. Plenty of online assistance.

Butterball Turkey Talk-line: 1-800-Butterball, or you'll find plenty of information - and I do mean plenty - on line at www.butterball.com. You'll find tips for everything from brining the bird to specialty napkin folds for setting the table.

Honeysuckle White Turkey Line: 1-800-810-6325. Pre-recorded information, but the phone menu is easy to navigate and the instructions on everything from roasting to carving are simple to follow, and clear. The web site is available at www.honeysucklewhite.com.

Perdue: 1-800-473-7383. Their web site offers a great deal of information, as well, at www.perdue.com.

USDA Hotline: 1-888-674-6854. They can't help you with recipes for pumpkin pie, but they can tell you what to do about the raw giblets that have been sitting out for the past eight hours with either live, recorded or online information.

Hopefully, you won't need any of these numbers. Enjoy a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Have questions? Are you curious about the differences between baking powder and baking soda? Is butter better for you than margarine? Is "all natural" the same as "organic"? Ask me! Every Friday, I'll answer your questions about food and cooking and if I don't know the answer, I'll find someone who does.
