Santa Cruz, CA,---Around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday a wildfire broke out in Santa Cruz County

Within several hours, close to a thousand acres were burning. The fire was so intense that it started to crown, jumping from tree top to tree top, which made the fire spread faster.

At 11:00 p.m.,  a heavy smoke was filling the area, and gigantic flames could be seen several miles away. Three hundred men were on the fire line and several hundred more were on their way. "Strike Teams" were being called up throughout the state to start moving towards the fire, and they should be in the area by daylight.

At 12:00 a.m. the fire was running wild
