Every writer knows that social networking is good for your career. I’ve had the pleasure of making new friends and acquaintances online who have been a great encouragement and have given me advice and insight.

There are some agents, editors, and writers who are active on Twitter who occasionally use a common hashtag to highlight a particular topic in publishing to discuss via a chat. These Twitter group chats are a great way for folks with common interests to share their thoughts. The hashtags are linked to a webpage where you can follow the discussion. To join the discussion, add your own questions and comments on Twitter with the topic’s hastag. Don't have a Twitter account? Get one, it's free and easy.

There are several Twitter chats available online. I’ve previously discussed #queryday and #pubtip. You may also want to check out those chats as well as some other writing chats that are being conducted:

#queryday

#pubtip

#editorchat

#litchat

#journchat

#wno (Writer’s Night Out, hosted by Books & Such Literary Agency. They hosted the chat Wednesday night and promised there would be more to come.)

Keep your eyes peeled to spot other hashtag-connected terms so that you can find the valuable gems of wisdom and inspiration that are being offered by industry professionals.
