Earlier this year, LucasArts and BioWare let folks know that they had a big announcement on October 21. Well, today is October 21 and the announcement is Star Wars: The Old Republic, a massive multiplayer online role playing game that is due... sometime in the future we guess.
At the press conference in San Francisco, both LucasArts and BioWare teams were on hand to talk about the upcoming game. Here were some of the main points
- They're joining forces with EA to release the game.
- It will be a story-driven MMO.
- Companions (think Han and Chewie) play a big role in the game and whether you create a Light Force or Dark Force character, you can tempt your companions to either side.
- Yes, it is a successor to the Knights of the Old Republic games. The game takes place 300 years after Knights of the Old Republic II, which is 3,500 years before the movies.
- At the start of the game you will be given the choice between joining the Sith Empire or the Galactic Republic.
- They're only talking about the PC version of the game right now. No word on if the games will come to consoles.
- They want to make sure that non-MMO fans will be able to pick up the game and play it.
- And they do plan to have an open beta.
- And of course, there is no release date.
For now enjoy the screenshots:
