Yes, the Call of Duty: World at War Multiplayer Beta brings back memories of... Call of Duty 4! Except we have new maps and it's World War 2.
It's still fun but the game play, working on the Modern Warfare engine, is virtually the same with some cool looking maps from the Pacific and with weapons from the 1940's. There are a few modes to play in: two Team Deathmatches, Capture the Flag, Free for All and War. All the modes are pretty much the same any any multiplayer shooter except for War, where you try to conquer different areas of a map and whoever has the most when time runs out, wins.
But what stands out are the little bonuses for kills. Depending on how many kills you get in a row, you can call an airstrike or send out a bunch of dogs to attack your enemies. And if you play particularly well in racking up points and rankings, you can earn that coveted flame thrower.
There are only three maps available, Makin, Castle and Roundhouse. Roundhouse looks like an abandoned train or industral yard, Castle looks like a place where important Japanese folk once lived in, and Makin is a cool jungle swamp type of map with huts and water you can wade in.
But even with a handful of maps, a few weapons, and game play, the game is still addictive as ever, especially with all the perks and bonuses giving you the incentive to keep on playing. There are still some beta codes floating around somewhere, so jump in the fun if you can. If not, Call of Duty: World at War hits stores November 11.
