One Japanese company is preparing for disaster.

Manufacturers Oyagokoro, based in earthquake-prone Japan, has launched three types of survival packs for cats and dogs, reports Inside Japan.

The kit, which comes in three sizes, features a padded jacket and rain hat, special boots to protect paws, and aromatherapy oils to to calm stressed-out pets.

Also included in the pack - which doubles as a carry case for smaller pets - is a waterproof ID capsule for the animal's name and address, and a belt in case the animal becomes trapped in rubble.

Owners are encouraged to keep an item of worn personal clothing in a section to let panicky animals smell it and be calmed during the disaster.

The earthquake packs are being distrubuted in the US by Rinkya Inc.

The country has recently been hit by three earthquakes, leading to fears that the "big one" may be on its way.
