"I don't think Twisted Sister is "Glam" because that implies glamour, and we're not glamorous. We should be called "Hid" because we're hideous." - Dee Snider
What a coincidence: just last week I was listening to Twisted Sister’s “Under the Blade” on XM Radio’s “The Boneyard,” and reflecting on what an underrated band they’ve always been. Now, one week later, the S.M.F.s of the world (myself included) will have a chance to go head to head with Twisted’s legendary Dee Snider and Jay Jay French in Xbox Live’s latest “Game with Fame” event.
Twisted Sister is celebrating the release of the 2-disc 25th Anniversary Edition of “Stay Hungry” on Tuesday, June 30th. Gold Xbox Live members can join in the festivities on Wednesday, July 1st. The ultimate rock front man, Dee Snider, will be playing “Call of Duty: World at War” from 3-4PM EST.

Jay Jay French, almost as well known for his stellar production with bands like Sevendust as he is for his guitar pyrotechnics, will be playing “Gears of War 2” from 4-5PM EST. In order to join either session, Xbox Live Gold members should send a friend request to “TwistedDee GwF” or “TwistedJay GwF” and be online by 2:30PM EST (you don’t really need me to specify which one’s for Dee and which is for Jay Jay, right? Good.)
In the meantime, do yourself a favor and pick up the 25th Anniversary Edition of “Stay Hungry.” Can it really be a quarter century since this album made Twisted Sister a household name? It wasn’t their first and it wasn’t their best (I’ve got to give that title to “Under the Blade”), but thanks to the videos for “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock,” 93% of the Earth’s population know exactly who Twisted Sister are (statistical data is valid…no need to look it up). Having seen one of their first reunion gigs at the New York Steel benefit in the wake of the September 11th attacks, I can personally vouch for the fact that Twisted Sister is also one of those rare 80’s bands who sound even better now than in their heyday. I’d offer a recommended listening list, but you can’t really go wrong with anything this band has recorded and yes, that goes for their Christmas album too.
