There have been a whopping two movies this year whose trailers made me grin from ear to ear. The first was Disney/Pixar's "Up." The other is "Zombieland." I don't know what that says about me, and I'm not sure I care to put too much thought into it.
In his official blog, director Ruben Fleischer describes the forthcoming zombie action-comedy as being about "the most frightened guy on Earth" trying to find refuge in a world overrun by zombies. While this may sound awfully familiar to "Left 4 Dead" fanatics, Fleischer was already scouting locations the day "L4D" hit Steam (and shelves). Along with Woody Harrelson (who's long overdue for a serious comeback), the film stars Jesse Eisenberg ("Adventureland"), Emma Stone ("Superbad"), and Abigail Breslin ("Kit Kittredge: An American Girl"...so sue me, it's the only thing I've seen her in other than "Signs"). Multiple sites are reporting the involvement of "Family Guy" and "That 70's Show" alum Mila Kunis, but I haven't been able to confirm that on IMDB or in any of the publicity stills. Just in case, it's probably best that I gratuitously remind you who I'm talking about.
If it lives up to the trailer, "Zombieland" could well be the "Left 4 Dead" movie that gamers have been hoping for. So it doesn't officially have Francis, Bill, Zoey, and Louis. From all indications, neither will "L4D2." It looks like it's got the gore, the violence, the humor, and the attitude right, so what else could you ask for? Other than Woody Harrelson complaining about how much he hates Ayn Rand?
Either way, I know where I'll be on October 9th. In fact, I suspect I know where the entire Thursday Night Fights crew will be on October 9th.
