Hell hath frozen over! I'm updating my Examiner column and Vagiant Boston is getting some of the mainstream recognition they deserve. The fine folks at the Boston Music Awards have honored the greatest all-female punk band ever to rise from the gutters of Allston with a nomination for "Punk Act of the Year." The bad news? They're up against obvious local faves Dropkick Murphys and Mission to Burma. The good news? Voting is still open and you (yes, you, the one surfing the net in your underwear) can turn the tide in favor of Vagiant Boston, the band I continue to justify hyping in a console gaming column because their singer works for Harmonix.
Speaking of whom, I recently had the pleasure to catch up with Harmonix lead writer and Vagiant Boston front-woman Helen McWilliams, and she had plenty to say about the misadventures the band's been up to since we last caught up with them in April. Later this week, I'll bring you lucky readers up to speed on the band's new album, new bass player and new name.
Vagiant Boston's also playing the BMAs on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at the Liberty Hotel in Boston. There are only 200 tix available to the public, at $20 a pop, but it looks like there are still some left here.
In the meantime haul your cyber butt over to the Boston Music Awards Web site and cast your vote for "Punk Act of the Year." You've only got until Monday Nov. 30 to make it happen, so vote early, vote often and vote Vagiant Boston.
