Fox Broadcasting- SYTYCD - Ade Obayomi

If anyone has been watching So You Think You Can Dance, you know that the show has been on another stratosphere this season. It has been difficult to see anyone go each week, all have been so good and deserved to stay, but it would not be a competition if no one got eliminated. Do not get me wrong the dancers from the previous season have been phenomenal. No one will ever take the place in my heart of Blake McGrath (season 1), Danny Tidwell (season 3) or Will Wingfield (season 4). But, what makes this season different is that there is no break out stars. Yes, Kayla is fierce and is a judges’ favorite, and Brandon dances the heck out of everything that is given him, but the other dancers are tapping them on the shoulder. However, all of that changed when I saw Ade Obayomi ‘dance for his life’ last week; I had to reprocess. My goodness, he took his solo to another level. In fact, it was the best solo I have seen since the beginning of the show, and I have not missed a season. Ade was powerful, but loose. He was in control, but not forced. His jumps were jaw droppingly high. He had complete control of his center (abdominals-core strength). He did multiple turns with ease, and his solo had what many lack in the competition a beginning, a middle and an end. He smartly used his hip-hop and gymnastics training to enhance the song. He did not desperately throw in a kitchen sink of movements in order to show off his versatility. He just danced, and made it look so easy, and I fell in love with Ade. I was not the only one. He got a standing ovation which is rare for the solos. Nigel Lythgoe said at the beginning of the season that he hoped folks would not sleep on Ade and miss just how good he is, because his style is so effortless, so laid back. And I did not take heed to his warning, because I have to admit I have not paid much attention to Ade. Quite a bit of what he has been given to dance in the competition are styles that feature his partner, Melissa Sandvig, the ballerina. And she is beautiful a dancer, so it is difficult to take your eyes off of her. But Mr. Ade Obayomi pushed past her and the rest of the crowd last week, and he has my full attention now. I can not wait to see what brings to the table from this point forward especially since the dancers will be switching partners. He is too good to be dancing in anyone’s shadow.  Check him out, and the other wonderful dancers on So You Think You Can Dance tonight at 8:00 on Fox.
