Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine, says she is not ready to watch This Is It, a behind-the-scenes documentary of her son’s rehearsals for concerts that would have taken place this summer at London’s 02 Arena. I am sure all can understand her feelings. I also thought it was too soon to see him in his finals days vibrant and energetic. My grief was too raw. And I was not sure Jackson meant for this footage to be seen by the public; the film seemed to be an attempt to make money off of his name. But Kenny Ortega, the film’s director says the film is “Michael’s gift to his fans”. I am still not certain if that was Jackson’s intent, but seeing the trailer and scenes from the documentary, I realized I could not miss this film. It is Michael Jackson at his finest developing, leading, dancing, singing, creating.…on stage…it was where he was most at home. And going to the film seems a proper way to say good-bye to him.
The documentary is assembled from more than 100 hours of footage featuring Jackson between April and May of this year as he rehearsed, worked and guided singers, dancers, band members, choreographers, special effect creators and other creative members of his comeback concert team.
Ortega says,
Fans will see Michael as they have never seen him before…a private , exclusive look into a creative genius’s world—inspirational, dynamic, generous, dedicated, loving and the guiding force. You see him as the true architect and driving force of this project
