The passionate and lyrical modern dance company, El Teatro de Danza Contemporanea de El Salvador (TDC) will be returning to Dance Place this weekend, October 17th at 8:00 pm and Sunday, October 18th at 7:00 pm. However, this year the company will be much larger. Due to the loosening of post 9/11 visa restrictions and a change in government officials in the U.S. and El Salvador (Of course, Barack Obama was elected president in the States and Mauricio Funes is the new president of El Salvador), a more free cultural exchange is again possible. So, TDC’s El Salvadorian dancers will long last join talents with their American TDC dancers to present a powerful and inspiring season of dance. TDC’s program, Punto de Encuentro de Dos Mundos, will be a celebration of El Salvador’s history--"carrying the message of El Salvador moving towards a new history."
They will further present works by Juan Carlos Rincones, Miya Hisaka Silva (founding and artistic director of TDC), Adrian Bolton and founding members Danilo Rivera, Francisco Castillo and Yasmin Hernadez. With a line-up of works by these amazing choreographers and the talent of TDC’s dancers, the night promises to be spectacular.
Dance Place is located at 3225 8th Street, North East (2 Blocks from the Brookland red line Metro station stop by Catholic University). The tickets are $22.00 (general admission), $17.00 (students, teachers, seniors, artists and members) and $8.00 (children 17-years-old and under)
If you can not make TDC’s performance at Dance Place, you can watch them on television tonight on WETA Channel 26 at 8:00 pm at part of the Fiesta Latina concert. They will be in the finale act with Gloria Estefan in “Mi Tierra”.
