People in this city will be whistling a new tune when they watch a new television sitcom about a transplanted yankee moving to New Orleans to "jump start her life."
Written, directed and produced by B.J. Grogan, "Dixie Melodie" is a half-hour comedy about a young girl named Melodie Callahan. Melodie, played by Hannah Bryan, moved from Hackensack, NJ to begin a new life. Frederick Charleston, played by Lane Davies, quickly becomes fond of Melodie after she moves into the boarding house.
The story is told from the point of view of the new girl in town, and yes, we will see hilarious first encounters with beignet powder, crawfish and the night life. "Dixie Melodie" touches topics like politics, religion, racial issues and, of course, sex. Hey, at least it's not another television show about Katrina.
"Dixie Melodie" forces us as locals to re-examine our city as outsiders and appreciate the aspects of the city we've taken for granted. (Go ahead. Watch the trailer below and see if you don't want beignets!)
To Melodie, New Orleans represents a new beginning and a fresh start. If you ask me, I think we have a lot to learn from her.
Sheer Audacity is a Los Angeles based production company that hired a local cast and crew. Final touches on the pilot have been completed, and "Dixie Melodie" is currently seeking distribution to cable networks. We can only hope "Dixie Melodie" has better luck than "K-Ville."
