The perennial prospect powerhouse, Bowman Baseball, is only a few months away from its 2009 debut. In addition to their standard checklist of prospects, Topps announced Wednesday afternoon that 2009 Bowman Baseball will feature a 20 card WBC-themed insert set. This will be the inaugural run for the World Baseball Classic Rising Stars (BCW1-BCW20), but it looks to be strong debut.

All 20 of the cards in the 2009 Bowman Baseball WBC Rising Stars insert set can be found in multiple variations, including Base, Chrome, Refractor, X-Fractor, Blue Refractor, Gold Refractor, Orange Refractor, Red Refractor and SuperFractor technologies. The checklist for the set, which can be found in the column to the left, features an impressive list of international talent.  The set is headlined by Canadian flamethrower Phillippe Aumont and Japanese pitching sensation Yu Darvish.  In a recent article by The Los Angeles Times, the writer compared Yarvish to Red Sox Ace Daisuke Matsuzaka, “If you think Daisuke Matsuzaka was special, wait until you see the upgrade.” A bold statement, indeed.  Should it prove to be an accurate assessment, his 2009 Bowman Chrome card will likely be the crown jewel of Yu Darvish rookie cards.

2009 Bowman will also feature a checklist of 105 Minor League Prospects. Notable names on this list include Neftali Felix (Rangers), Logan Morrison (Marlins), Greg Halman (Mariners), Julio Teheran (Braves), and Tyler Flowers (White Sox).

2009 Bowman Baseball will carry an MSRP of $3.00 per pack. Each pack will include 5 Base cards, 2 Prospect cards, 2 Prospect Chrome cards and 1 Parallel card. As in years past, every hobby box of 2009 Bowman Baseball will feature 1 guaranteed Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph. It is currently scheduled for release during the first week of May.
