This Friday is the 8th anniversary of September 11th

This Friday marks the 8th anniversary of September 11th.  The tragic events that occurred that day left Americans feeling scared and vulnerable.  Although these memories lie within us, kids under the age of 8 weren't around to know what happened that day.

Preschoolers are naturally inquisitive, and the topic of September 11th will come up at some point, if not already.  So how will you handle this delicate topic if your preschooler asks?

The best approach is to be simple in your answers and not to provide too many details.  Preschoolers are naturally egocentric, and knowing that events like September 11th occurred can make them feel scared that something like that will happen to them.

Another important point to remember is to highlight the heroes that helped save the day.  Although the events were tragic, September 11th certainly brought Americans closer together.  It's important to relay this message to your preschooler and not to focus only on the destructive events that occurred.

Here are some fun, easy activities to do with your preschooler to honor those from September 11th.
