Kids playing instruments is music to the ears!

We all know the importance of music; not only is it a form of art, but also a great way to introduce the world of different sounds, beats and vocals to your preschooler.

Preschoolers love making noise and are always up to activities that focus on music.  Here are some great ideas to add music to your preschooler's day!

- Make music shakers.  Take an empty water bottle or plastic container and have your preschooler fill it with beads or small rocks.  Hot glue the lid to the water bottle and your music shaker is complete!

- Make a kazoo.  These simple music makers can be made using a small toilet paper roll, wax paper and rubber band.  Let your preschooler decorate the toilet paper roll, then secure wax paper at the end of one side using the rubber band.  Your preschooler will love the noises he can make!

- Dance around to music.  It may sound like a simple activity, but it surely will please your preschooler!  Choose music that is kid-friendly, such as songs by the Wiggles or Jim Gill.  These songs incorporate the participation of kids and will get them counting, acting like animals and jumping up and down.

- Painting to music.  Parents know the beauty in having quiet time at the end of the day, and having your preschooler paint to music will bring just this.  Put on some classical tunes and have your preschooler paint or color to the different tempos of the music.  The faster and louder the music - the faster she paints.  The slower and quieter the music - the slower she paints.

- Use music when possible.  Preschoolers are more interested and engaged when rules and instructions incorporate music.  Next time when cleaning up, use a song to help make the chore more fun.  Sing songs in the bathtub as a way to unwind at the end of the day.  While driving in the car, sing along to kid-friendly music or play the radio in place of the TV.

Remember that it is not what type of music your child listens to, but that they are exposed to music.  So enjoy your own music while benefiting your preschooler!
