In 1997, David Wells wore a Babe Ruth game worn cap when he went out to pitch a game for the Yankees. The way I understand it, Wells was ordered by Manager Joe Torre to switch to his regular Yankees cap after the first inning. According to Wikipedia, Wells had purchased the Ruth cap for $35,000.

That was a good purchase by Wells. Robert Edward Auctions recently sold a Circa 1932 Babe Ruth New York Yankees Game Worn cap for $99,875. According to REA's description with the Ruth Cap, there are no more than 5 of these caps still in existence. My guess is, if Wells ever decides to sell the Ruth cap he owns, it would go for quite a bit more than the REA Ruth. http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/auction/2009/11.html

According to a 2007 Sports Collector's Daily story, David Wells also owns a ball which has been signed by Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, and Barry Bonds. Wells is said to have purchased a Ruth single signed ball for $7000. Aaron and Bonds signed the ball later. http://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/memorabilia-news/the-david-wells-collection-ruth-aaron-bonds-ball.html.

Normally you wouldn't want ANYONE else to sign a Babe Ruth single signed ball. This ball is interesting because it's David Wells who added the Aaron and Bonds signatures. The whole debate about steroids and home run records factors in,  and I think that ball would now sell for more than $7000. I know I would love to have it.

If you had the money, how much would you pay for the ball signed by Ruth, Aaron, and Bonds? Comment here, or email me at tom@tcrowntom.com. My twitter id is tcrowntom.
