* I just glanced over this list of Daily News top 10 for various non-football sports, and I think Thousand Oaks High School is on every one of these lists. That's pretty impressive. I'm going out to Westlake to see the Lancers' football team open its Marmonte League schedule on the road this Friday. Good luck to both teams. Also props to Granada Hills for being I think the only City Section school to make the list in any of the above sports.
* It notes in this midweek football article that Canoga Park High has its East Valley League opener against Poly of Sun Valley this week. Anyway, I think Ivan Moreno's team is going to be focusing on run defense in the final days of practice leading up to the game, you know, because all Poly running back Kevin Ervin did last week was rush 20 times for 409 yards and six touchdowns. I haven't seen either team on game night, but numbers-wise this shapes up to be a good game. Calpreps has Poly as the higher-ranked team, but this may be largely because they were unable to contact Moreno to obtain preview info. The Hunters (an early favorite of this here blog who we regret we have fallen out of touch with lately) are thus unlikely to continue their streak of consecutive games in which they beat teams by exactly 42 points. Their chances of winning, on the other hand, I would peg at about 50-50.
