I suppose that I am going to spend pretty much all day tomorrow (Saturday) blogging about the Southern Section lacrosse championships. Now obviously, if I was less technologically impaired, I'd have been blogging about them today (Friday)--after all, today was when they took place, and I was there, and live in-game blog updates are all the rage. Blogging a day later with thoughts from the games? Shoot, that is what newspapers are for.
Still, that's the way this is going to go down: I just spent essentially 7 hours first driving down to Mira Costa High in sludge-like traffic, then covering the girls' championship (Los Alamitos taking a 13-5 lead over Cate School of Carpinteria before halftime, then cruising to a 17-11 victory), and then staying around and covering the boys' championship (Foothill-Santa Ana taking a 6-2 lead over Loyola-Los Angeles before halftime, then cruising to a 10-7 victory).
I have lots to say about the game. I will bring you straight-faced game wraps filled with quotes and stats, and I will bring you meandering whimsical observations that I wrote down as I went along. I will compare and contrast the boys game and the girls game, the Orange County teams and the north-of-Orange County teams. I will tell you about a few folks I met behind the scenes. The five hours I spent covering these two games ought to give me a week's worth of coverage on this here Web page.
I hope I use all of the quotes I got and the observations I wrote down, and I hope I use it within the next couple of days. But right now, I'm calling it a night. Congrats to everybody who played in a couple of championship games. I told you the scores; come back here tomorrow or the next day for the details.
